Some problems and concepts are too big to completely understand and, in my opinion, focusing on smaller bits can help to achieve great change. In the end, we may never understand the problem and concept completely, but striving to understand means a great deal and is never a wrong first step. This portrait is the prototype to an ongoing series of work that is meant to help communicate people’s unique perspectives in an effort to personalize and contextualize their experiences in the world today.

There is a real possibility that I will come across surprising and potentially uncomfortable stories as I continue with this series, but I look forward to the experience and the conversation in an effort to better understand the people around me. Hopefully this will help others do the same!

This first piece with done with the help of Jonathan Fuller (A.K.A Wutang McDougal) as the model, Kirk Visola of Mind the Font providing the Typography and myself painting the portrait. We all come at life in different ways and react according to what life has presented us with. My hope is that we all worked together to provide an accurate representation of how Jon feels and how he exists.

If you are interested in participating in the project please go to my contact section and send me a message. In the meantime, stay tuned for more additions to this series as time permits.
